The Music Lyrics Meme

I got this from Heidi's husband Dan. And if you don't know who Dan is, you really should go over and check out his very cool blog at: http://dancsblog.blogspot.com/ (And Heidi's is here: http://amazoniowan.livejournal.com/ In case you haven't see her blog, you'll want to check it out too.)

Dan said that he I didn't have enough readers to support something like this, but he did it anyway. Well, I'm a newbie and I have only a handful of Blogger friends, but so what? I want to play too. Like Dan, I'm calling on all the lurkers out there to play along. Like Dan, I'll give it a week. Next Sunday, I'll check back in and see what's left and post the answers. What fun!

If you haven't heard about the music lyrics meme, here's a simple summary of the rules:

Step 1: Put your iPod/MP3 player or iTunes on random. (In my case, I just sat down and thought about various songs I'd put on an ipod if I had one.)

Step 2: Post the first line(s) from the first 20 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.

Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from. Those guessing the songs should post in the comments section.

Step 4: Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly and post the title in bold after the stricken song when it is guessed.

Step 5: (for those guessing the songs) If you look up the lyrics on Google or any other search engine, that's called cheating, so don't do it!

1) Well I find myself in reverie/of what we might have had and what might have been

2) Well, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on now touch me babe/can’t you see, that I am not afraid "Touch Me" by the Doors (Dee)

3) I am the hungry wolf/and I run endlessly with my mate

4) I met her at the 7-11/now I’m in seventh heaven

5) I am not he, nor master, nor lord/no crown to wear, no cross to bear in stations

6) I hear the clock, it’s 6am/I feel so far from where I’ve been "You Were Meant for Me" by Jewel (Dee)

7) And now they’re trying to take my life away/forever young I cannot stay. Hey!

8) Father, can you hear me? /How have I let you down?

9) Out on the wiley, windy moors, we'd roll and fall in green

10) Hearts go astray/ Leaving hurt when they go

11) I’m standing here on the ground/The sky above won’t fall down

12) (Hey, hey, hey, hey) There’ll be food on the table tonight/(Hey, hey, hey, hey)There’ll be pay in your pocket tonight

13) End of passion play, crumbling away/I’m your source of self-destruction

14) Oh, Elise it doesn’t matter what you say/I just can’t stay here every yesterday

15) Give me one reason to stay here and I’ll turn right back around "Give Me One Reason" by Tracy Chapman (Dan)

16) When I wake up yeah I know I’m gonna be/I’m gonna be the man who wakes up next to you "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" by the Proclaimers (Erica)

17) Friday night I’d just got back/ I had my eyes shut/was dreaming bout the past "Million Miles Away" by the Plimsouls/also remade by the Goo Goo Dolls (Dee)

18) Shayla worked in a Facory/She wasn’t history/She’s just a number "Shayla" by Blondie (Dan)

19) So 1, 2, 3, take my hand and come with me

20) Free- is all that she could bleed/That's why'll she'll never stay

#18 is Shayla -- I know the version by Blondie, but I feel like theirs is probably a cover.

#15 is Give Me One Reason by Tracy Chapman.

#2 - Touch Me, the Doors (love it!)

#6 - You Were Meant For Me, Jewel (makes me wanna cry!)

#16 - The 500 miles song from Benny and Joon (totally love this one, but can't remember the real title or who sings it!)

And now, I officially want to live inside Kim's office!!

Great Dan!
#18: The version of Shayla I was thinking of is by Blondie. I guess I made it easy since "Shayla" is in tht title but I figured people might not know the sing since it was old. I just love the sweetness of her voice at the beginning and how it sort of waxes and wanes throughout.

Yup, Give Me One Reason by Tracy Chapman is #15. I adore that song. Tracy's got a voice like mine. Love to sing along with women who sing contralto/tenor/deep like me.

Great job!

Hey Dee!

Yes, #2 is the Doors and that was an easy one, but hey, it's our song according to my hubby and I adore it.

#6 is YOu were Meant for Me by Jewel, yes. It makes me cry every time I listen to it I'm such a sap. Every time I hear this song I think of the first heroine I ever wrote who was very romantic. This was her song when she walked away from the hero and every time I hear it, I feel her heart breaking.

#16- Yes, you're correct, it was from Benny and Joon. They do another song on the same cd that was also popular, but I figured this one would be easier. Not going to let you off the hook for the name of the band, though. "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" is how the title is listed on the cd, so I'll give you tht title.

Good going!

Kim:)

Very good Erika!

The Proclaimers sang "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" Also another really fun one I like is called "I'm on My Way." Not sure if "I'm on my Way" was in Benny and Joon. I actually liked the songs and bought the cd before the movie came out. I never really paid attention to where they are from. I believe the guys are twins and I always thought of them as Irish, but probably just cuz I'm half Irish and I was projecting. :)

"Hungry Wolf" is an easy one since the title is in that first line, so I'm not giving it to you without the band. The band has broken up but still tours. I saw them last summer and they are touring again this summer. And their lead singer was someone that many girls imitated in high school--though not the mainstream girls... and that's about all the hints I'm giving for that one.

Hey, thanks for stopping by!

Oh, gotta thank the daughter for blaring her music this afternoon...

#17 is Million Miles Away by GooGoo Dolls.

I heard it, and ran upstairs to find out who it was. Her room is right above my office, and I usually shout at her to turn it down. She was a bit shocked when I burst in and said "Quick, who sings this song?"

That's not technically cheating if I heard it and recognized it, is it?

Dee,

Very interesting. I have no idea that the GooGoo Dolls remade "Million Miles Away," but the original is by The Plimsouls, who are one of the most overlooked bands out there. Peter Case and the boys are awesome. I actually saw them play last summer (along with the band who performs #3) and they are still great even 20 years later.

Ever see the movie Valley Girl with Nicholas Cage? Old movie, cult classic. He was supposed to be a punk rocker and he was nowhere near it, but a favorite of mine anyway. "Million Miles Away" had been out a couple of years and the Plimsouls played it in the movie as themselves.

Anyhoo, I'm gonna give it to ya. And I'm gonna check out the remake and you go check out the original.

Kim:) PS. No, I don't think it's cheating. ;)

Hi Caryl,

Thanks for stopping by! I felt like that about Dan's lyrics. Only one was blatently obvious, the Howard Jones--and I didn't even like Howard Jones in his day. But I did listen to a lot of music back then, which is probably why I remembered it.

If I had an ipod, I might be more up on lyrics myself. My drive to work is short and that used to be when I listened to lots of music. I don't listen much any more which is sad because I LOVE music.

Note to self: make more time for music.

Kim:)
