Celebration

Here's what the cake looked like after it was all set up. Kristin and Joe were very pleased with it, so I was too. Nighty night.

Edited to Add this morning: Here's a pic of Mom and me with the cake. (Not a good photo of Mom at all but at least I have one.) The wedding was at a Winery and the reception was in the "Barrel Room." The atmosphere was really unique and the cake table was made of a huge wine barrel with a round piece of glass on top. Pretty cool, huh?

My camera died last night, so I'll have to rely on family to send more pix.

Hi Char,

Thank you! I'm typically not a fan of fresh flowers on wedding cakes (*I* want to decorate it myself, you know?) but I really liked the look of this one. I'd placed the roses on it myself and the florist came in later and gave me more crystal pins. She decided to add the orchids so it would coordinate with the table decorations, so we pulled up some of the roses and replaced them with orchids. I wasn't real wild about the orchids at first (they color seemd a little washed out), but it turned out much prettier than I thought it would.

I am actually a big fan of the orchid. I don't know why, exactly, except to say that it isn't a huge funeral flower around here (I think that is the reason orchids get such a bad name). I think that in all actuality that the orchid is very sensual, and to have the sensual feel to a wedding cake is very optimal.

I do, however, understand wanting to decorate it oneself. I love to decorate cakes. But the fresh feel, with the personal touch is very exotic, and not nearly used as much as it should be!

You should be proud woman! I know that the cake you created will be thought of and treasured for years to come!

Char,
It's not that I don't like the orchids (they were very pretty), I just wasn't expecting them. I thought Kristin was going for more of a pop of color with the black and white cake and the hot pink roses. I do think they work because there's not too many of them. Thanls for all the nice stuff you said, sweetie.

Stepher,
How you been? Long time no see. I can't find your blog to come and "visit" you. You let me know when you want to bake a killer bundt cake. Sheri, the mother of the bride, makes a killer bundt cake called tunnel of fudge. You don't do anything special to make it and the cake bakes up with it's own fuge filling all by itself. Heaven.

Hugs,
Kim

Thank you Jill!

You're sweet. It actually doesn't bother me when the cakes are cut. I get happy when people eat them and enjoy them. I love feeding people.

Hugs,
Kim
